Demon Hunting

Here follows the true account of an encounter with the powers of darkness. The words I write are a witness unto themselves. However, besides me, there are three other witnesses. They are Aaron Weers, Jose Silva, and most of all, the Lord who is God. May these words bring glory to His great name…

What follows happened on Tuesday, the twenty-third day of October, 2003. (Seven days before Halloween if you take into account the time we went to sleep.) The location of these events was in the forest beginning by Pilgrim Lane Elementary.

Aaron, Jose, and I (Andrew) have been doing something we call “demon hunting” off and on since the time around the Halloween of ’02. Anyway, we went to the forest to do some demon hunting again.

Have you ever been in the dark so long that your mind starts to “fill things in” like moving shadows? Well, that’s pretty much what happened every night we went demon hunting. The sounds and shadows were no different on this night.

We went through the forest until we came to a place we have nicknamed “The Gate” because there is a cut down tree (two-parts) that leaves a gap wide enough to enter into the circular clearing behind it. (Kind of like a gate.)

The lights outside the forest flickered out. (Are you scared yet?) We heard a rustling and crunching of leaves in our ears.* It was not a common forest animal because with each step there was weight. We guessed the creature was about the size of a dog or bigger.

What do you think we did? If you guessed “run” then you’re right. In fact, we ran on the path out to the street (Lancaster Lane) to talk. We talked about five minutes (give or take). When we were conversing, Jose decided to drop the hypothetical question that still haunts us. It was something like this: “What if a big, black thing came running at us?”

Finally, Jose convinced us (actually it was Aaron he had to convince) to go back into the forest. I couldn’t wait to go back into the forest and “rebuke the demonic creature.” (Wait, yes I could.)

We approached “the gate” and I was ready to rebuke the thing. However, we heard a call from the creature in addition to rustling leaves. The sound stopped near one of the larger trees set on a hill. We all fixed our eyes on that same point for what felt like an eternity.

All of a sudden, with an ape-like jump, a big, black (possibly gray), scruffy-haired, dog-like creature leaped from the midst of the trees. The creature looked as if it didn’t have a neck, but rather the head was connected right to the body.

It landed. We ran.**

*The sound came from the clearing or the dried up river bed.

**We ran up some rocks in this order: Aaron first, then Jose, with me trailing a few feet behind.
