Just A Warning?
With the release of Michael Moore’s movie I thought it would be important to discover why the 9/11 attacks really happened. To do that we’ll take a look into Scripture and put ourselves in the place of a God who does not only love but is a just judge. Is He not the God who said, “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.”? He is justified in all his judgments…even those that seem cruel from our perspective.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-having a form of godliness but denying its power…” Is this not the perfect picture of our world today? How about the United States? How will God deal with these people? What does His Word say? Deuteronomy 28 states this in verse 25: “The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them in one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.” If you read all of chapter 28 there are many more curses which I believe are happening around the world and specifically in the United States. Why are these curses upon us? Verse 45 explains. “All these curses will come upon you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the LORD your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you.”
What commands did he give us and how can we escape these curses? He gave us the Ten Commandments, His Holy Law. Have you followed them? If we take a look into His Holy Law we will find that God is justified in cursing the nation.
“You shall have no other gods before me.” What in our lives takes priority over God? Surely the one who created us and gave us life and breath deserves more time than we have given him.
“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.” Have you broken this commandment? Have you created a god to suit yourself? You may say, “My god would never judge people and send them to hell?” You would be right in saying so because your god doesn’t exist. You have broken this commandment.
“You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” How many times have you used the name of the God who gave you life and breath in place of a four letter filth word to express disgust? How does God feel about this?
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Have you set apart a day in which you honor God?
“Honor your father and your mother…” How many times have we made our parents angry? We’ve dishonored them every time.
“You shall not murder.” Most of us have never murdered anyone but Jesus, who sees our motives said, “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. Have you ever called someone an idiot, bone-head, fool, etc.? Did you know that God considers you a murderer?
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” God considers us adulterers if we’ve looked at someone with lust.
“You shall not steal.” Be honest. Have you ever cheated on a test? That’s stealing a grade that doesn’t belong to you. Regardless of something’s value, God considers us thieves if we’ve stolen anything.
“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” Have you ever told a lie?
“You shall not covet.” Have you ever wanted something that somebody else had?
Surely God is justified in punishing covetous, lying, thieving, murderous, adulterers and idolaters in this life or the next. An earthly judge will punish thieves and murderers. How much more punishment will we receive from a heavenly judge?
The conclusion is simple we’re guilty and God judged us based on our actions. He was justified in doing so. Likewise, he is justified in sending everyone who has violated His Holy Law to hell. However, he doesn’t want to. In fact, He made a way for us to escape hell and receive eternal life in heaven. He has paid our fine for breaking His law in full. The Bible teaches that there is no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood. Jesus shed His blood in payment for our sins so our trial could be acquitted and we could escape judgment. He paid the fine for breaking his law. How do we access this forgiveness? All we have to do is repent, which means to realize what we’ve done wrong and apologize to God. Then we need to trust in Jesus and stop living for ourselves. Just like we would trust a parachute when jumping from a plane we need to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and trust Him. We need to see what he requires in His Word and do what it says.
